PM Presides the Inaugural Ceremony of National Road No. 48 Expansion Project

KOH KONG: On Monday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen has presided over the inauguration of National Road No. 48, which connects Sihanoukville to Khemara Phoumin city of Koh Kong Province, which has been in construction to expand and improve the quality of roads, promoting transportation and travel to citizens and businesses.

The nearly 150 kilometers road has been officially inaugurated in 2008 with only two lanes, while the new expansion project extends the road to four lanes, as well as the installation of drainage on both sides of the road to equipped extra road safety.

The project to expand and improve the quality of National Road No. 48 was built by the Korean company ILSUNG & HANIL Joint Venture, worth about $65 million as a loan from the Republic of Korea.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Sen has delivered some important remarks, such as the announcement of Korea’s plan to build a bridge over the Mekong River to connect Phnom Penh to the island of Arey Ksat.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has also stressed that relationships with Korea has been strengthening in the past few years, stressing that such diplomatic relations have started late, but now is right on track.

The Prime Minister has also announced that Koh Kong will have more special zones, being not less than any other province, such as Sihanoukville.
